The research bridge HEiKAexplore serves the exploration and support of new, strategically important topics. Therefor the Research Bridge regularly devotes itself to a large, common topic (outside the topics of the established HEiKA research bridges AIP, MTH, OE, PAC and SB), in which existing collaborations by HEiKA should be strengthened and new ones stimulated.
HEiKAexplore regularly devotes itself to a large, common topic (outside the topics of the established HEiKA research bridges: AIP, MTH, OE, PAC and SB), in which existing collaborations should be strengthened and new ones stimulated. An important goal for HEiKA is to promote topics that have a recognizable potential for initiating a new joint research network. In consequence a HEiKAexplore topic has to show a higher amplitude with regard to content and human resources from both, KIT and Heidelberg University, in order to enable collaboration beyond a basic HEiKA project.
The topics for HEiKAexplore are selected and designed using a bottom-up process. To this end, regularly at the end of the year, there is an invitation (HEiKAexplore call for topics) to the members and members of KIT and the University of Heidelberg to submit one-page outlines on such a new topic. From these proposals, the HEiKA Strategic Board selects the topic of the exploratory bridge during their spring meeting of the following year, with which the Research Bridge will then participate in the next call for joint projects (in May each year).
In order to support networking in the newly chosen topic, a thematic HEiKAexplore workshop will be held in the course of spring/early summer, during which the interested scientists will be able to further sharpen the chosen topic and find their way to (new) project teams in preparation for the project call.
