CALL FOR PROPOSALS for HEiKA STRATEGIC AREAS of RESEARCH (HEiKA-STAR)

for the Joint Development of Strategic Research Alliances between KIT and Uni HD  >> Deadline: October 21, 2024 <<

The HEiKA-STAR program (STrategic Areas of Research) is a joint initiative by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Heidelberg (Uni HD) aimed at fostering strategic research alliances between the two institutions. The goal is to support research projects of high scientific quality and innovation that will lead to larger joint funding applications with national or international research funding institutions and thus create long-term structural connections between KIT and Uni HD.

SUMMARY>>

GOALS AND SCOPE

  • Funding Amount: Up to 200,000 euros per year
  • Duration: Up to 24 months, with the possibility of an additional 12 months of funding
  • Scope: Open to all research topics, not limited to existing HEiKA research areas
  • Eligibility: Consortia of at least four recognized scientists from KIT and Uni HD, including qualified junior researchers

REQUIREMENTS AND DEADLINES

  • Advance Notice: Notification of intent to submit by September 16, 2024, via email
  • Submission: Complete proposal by October 21, 2024, in electronic form (DOCX and PDF)
  • Start of Funding: January 1, 2025
  • Evaluation Criteria: Scientific quality, originality, relevance, scientific qualification of the consortium, complementarity and interdisciplinarity, feasibility, and sustainable structural connections between KIT and Uni HD

ELIGIBLE EXPENDITURES

  • Personnel costs (including student assistants, but not the applicants' own positions)
  • Material costs and investments directly serving the project's goals
  • Non-eligible: Construction and furnishing costs, general operating costs, general institute equipment

TIMELINE

  • July 2024: Call for HEiKA Strategic Areas of Research open for submissions
  • September 16, 2024: Declaration of intent to apply (e-mail: info@heika-research.de)
  • October 21, 2024: Submission deadline
  • November 5, 2024: Selection meeting of HEiKA Strategic Board in Karlsruhe (save the date)
  • January 1, 2025: Start of funding for HEiKA Strategic Areas of Research
