Abusive Head Trauma Dummy

This project deals with the topic of abusive head trauma (AHT) in children in the first two years of life. The vision is to develop an adaptive model based on machine learning methods to help determine the cause of injury in AHT cases.

Advanced Imaging Platform

High-Performance Printed Thermoelectrics

Every year, two thirds of primary energy is released to the environment as waste heat. The re-utilization of the enormous amount of waste heat by means of conversion into electricity is of great significance to fight against climate change. Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are gaining significant interest in academia and industry. This project aims to develop printed composite TE films with low interface resistance.

Synthetic Biology

Targeting Colorectal Cancer Plasticity

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide and the primary cause of cancer-related deaths in Germany. Resistance to therapy likely occurs owing to a small population of cancer cells with stem cell properties, appearing as relevant cell target for therapy.
The project goal is the development of a therapy preventing the reappearance of stem cells.

Living Lab Project

The dialogue for the anamnesis between patient and physician is of crucial importance. To professionalize this communication is an essential task Jürgen Hesser and Ines Langemeyer are exploring by using cutting-edge technology to reshape patient-physician communication

Revolutionizing dental implantology...

...with 3D-printed zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) implants!
By using 3D printing, highly individualized, root-like implants can be produced from ZrO2. These innovations not only improve the healing and long-term stability of the implants, but also make them more cost-effective.

Medical Technology for Health

Keep moving: the effects of rollator support

The 2021 funded HEiKA project of Lizeth Sloot and Thorsten Stein is still successfully collaborating on how rollator support affects sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit movements. The findings are now published in Nature Science.

Startup Factories competition

A newly formed association consisting of leading institutions from science and industry is moving on to the next round of the competition. In the association, which will be called NXTGN, both Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Heidelberg University are members.

Pop up Living Lab Wearables

In the Living Lab, experts, scientists and interested people have many opportunities to come into contact with the fascinating possibilities of wearable technologies. It is intended to be a networking and communication platform for working together on interdisciplinary projects and offering hands-on science.

3DMM2O at Innovation Lab

The newly renovated laboratories in the InnovationLab (iL) provide an excellent basis for the 3D Matter Made to Order (3DMM2O) cluster of excellence, including the Quantum-X printer for high-precision 3D structures. In addition, the new iL Cluster Manager Reza Taale has been on site since June, providing an important point of contact for the scientific community, university hospitals, start-ups, industry and non-profit organisations.
